SENIOR HEALTH DAY FAIR
Health Information & Wellness for Seniors

Honolulu, Hawaii In recognition of National Home Care Month, Attention Plus Care Hawaii hosted "Senior Health Day Fair" on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Windward Mall. The fair, held at center court emphasized active, healthy living through physical fitness, good nutrition, and preventative care. The event offered health awareness, education, entertainment, guest speakers, prizes, giveaways, and free health screenings.Na Kupuna O KoolauOver 800 people turned out for the event, and everyone had an opportunity to meet with a variety of medical practitioners and exhibitors to learn about resources available to promote healthy aging and improving quality of life.

Wilson Kekoa Ho, Chair of the Waimanalo Neighborhood Board was the emcee for the event. There were great performances by Na Kupuna O Ko'olau, a seniors group consisting of seven musicians and nine hula dancers, as well as an exercise "Zumba" demonstration by YMCA; a new fitness program with easy to learn dance steps to the beat of Latin music.

Lt. Governer Duke Aiona Jr.Special guest speakers included Lieutenant Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona, Jr. and Managing Director of City and County of Honolulu, Kirk Caldwell.

"Incorporating more physical activity and nutrition in our lives is fundamental to healthy living," said Lt. Governor Aiona. "It is as easy as going for a walk each day and eating one more serving of a fruit and vegetable. These simple changes can add up to big health benefits so our residents can live longer, healthier lives."

Managing Director Kirk Caldwell, delivered a message on behalf of Mayor Mufi Hannemann. "The health fair provides essential information and services to our community. This company provides quality, affordable care to meet a full range of senior health care needs and shows its commitment to healthy aging by developing these kinds of community outreach, education and training programs," said Caldwell stating the message quoted by Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

Carol Samples awarding Eleanor OtakeDuring the month of November, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) celebrates National Home Care Month to honor the men and women who have dedicated their lives to caring for others.

In recognition of National Home Care Month, Gary Powell, Executive Director of The Caregiver Foundation of America and Carol Samples, President, CEO, and Founder of Attention Plus Care presented a plaque to Eleanor Otake as representative of her siblings in the Otake family for volunteering their time to caregiving for their mother.

Zumba demonstration by YMCAParticipants received free blood pressure readings, eye exams, giveaways, and prizes. Prizes included Walgreens gift certificates, Brite Smile Gift certificates, movie passes, Zippy's gift cards, gift baskets, beauty products, and more.
