HONOLULU (February 4, 2015) - Over 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, and as many as 16 million will have the disease in 2050. The cost of caring for those with Alzheimer's and other dementia's totals was about $214 billion in 2014. Nearly one in every three seniors who dies each year has Alzheimer's or another dementia. To help understand this disease, home health care provider Attention Plus Care, along with the Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter, will host a free Understanding Alzheimer's seminar at the Lanakila Multi Purpose Senior Center, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Attendees will learn coping tips while caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's, strategies to manage dementia related behaviors, and memory boosters to enhance memory skills.

Jerray Braceros, a registered nurse with Attention Plus Care, will lead the seminar. "When you know and love someone with Alzheimer's it can be devastating. Caring for that person is often the hardest aspect of the disease as there is a sense of loss on many levels. Many families are unaware of the different stages in this disease and what they can do." said Braceros.

"The Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter exists to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health" said Pamela Ah-Nee, Program Director, who will also present at the seminar. "We are grateful to partner with Attention Plus Care and their ongoing commitment to provide safe and reliable care for our loved ones living with dementia related illness".
