HONOLULU (April 1, 2015) - Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in America. An estimated 50 million Americans, including 300,000 children, suffer from arthritis or arthritis related symptoms - that's 1 in 5 people struggling with arthritis pain. The Arthritis Foundation of Hawaii is part of the Pacific Region, which serves almost 6.7 million adults and nearly 48,000 children with arthritis and related diseases in Arizona, Greater California, Hawaii and Nevada. As Hawaii's Home Care Provider of Choice, Attention Plus Care along with The Arthritis Foundation Hawaii will host Arthritis Disease Related Management at the Moiliili Senior Center, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Attendees will learn more about arthritis and the causes of pain, how to better manage it, and the benefits of exercise and diet.

Cindy Baker, RN, and Client Service Director Eileen Phillips, RN, will lead the seminar. "Providing these sessions helps empower our seniors. Information can make a difference in the choices we make to reduce the symptoms of arthritis and improve the quality of life for our Kupuna." said Baker.

Dr. Michael Turner is the owner of OrthoSport Hawaii and a doctor of physical therapy and is a orthopedic certified specialist with 22 years' experience treating arthritis and related conditions. He will be presenting on the topic of diet and exercise for conservative management of arthritis pain. Participants will learn about the dietary factors and exercise movements necessary to maintain joint mobility and gain strength without aggravating their symptoms. Basic exercises will be practiced together, and will include movements that can be performed with minimal equipment at home or in the outdoors. "We are especially grateful to Attention Plus for providing these important venues that support our seniors and loved ones living with arthritis and related diseases." said Dr. Turner. Arthritis and Disease Related Management is one of many topics covered each month through Attention Plus Care's Aging in Hawaii Educational Outreach Program. The mission of Aging in Hawaii is to provide resources for seniors and their families. Classes are instructed by a Registered Nurse, with a different topic each month.
